Weight Loss For Men
Weight Loss Tips For Men
You will be pleased to know that weight loss for men is easier than it is for women.
Here are some of the reasons why:
- Men have a greater muscle to fat ratio than women and muscle burns fat
- Men don’t tend to use food as an emotional comfort barrier
- Men don’t have PMT or hormonal changes in their bodies which leads women to associated cravings and binges
In a nutshell you are the ideal candidate to lose weight effectively. All you need to do is eat a good healthy balanced diet of fruit, vegetables, fish and protein; do some moderate exercise 3-4 times a week and keep a
positive mental attitude. This will give you a steady and sustainable weight loss.
Here are some weight loss tips for men
Eat Carbs
Men need to keep their energy up and you get a good supply of energy from carbs. All you need to do is make wise choices when eating
carbohydrates.
Choose brown rice and pasta as opposed to white and eat wholemeal bread and porridge. You need to be eating filling foods, that is foods that
make you feel fuller for longer. By doing this you will find that carbohydrates are your friend, not your enemy. So definitely don’t take any
notice of the low or no carb diets. Carbohydrates play an important role in weight loss and your health in general so you won’t want to be
cutting these out.
Look at professional football players’ diets. They east plenty of pasta, chicken, fish and bananas. These are the kind of foods that you
should be targeting. You need to eliminate all fatty foods such as chips, pizza, burgers etc. They not only pile the pounds on you but they are
prime ‘heart attack’ foods and it is a known fact that men are prone to heart diseases more than women are.
You can also get good carbs from green vegetables such as sprouts, spinach and broccoli, so try and eat plenty of fresh vegetables daily and
include some green vegetables in your ‘5 a day’ veg choices.
Alcohol And Boys Nights Out
Weight loss for men is hindered by the ‘going down the pub’ scenario. So here are some weight loss tips for men specifically on ‘boys nights
out’:
- Have two nights off a week from your calorie counting. So for example, if you go out
with the lads on a weekend, then have your ‘party time’ from Friday night to Sunday morning.
- Larger is the biggest culprit for men and their ‘beer bellies’. A normal strength pint of larger contains 165 calories. A strong larger
can contain 250 calories. Try and cut back on pints of larger and have one or two glasses or spirits with a low calorie mixer.
- Don’t be fooled by drinking pints of pop, lemonade or coke for example. These can be just as high in calories as larger. Drink
low-calorie drinks instead. Soda and lime is a nice refreshing drink.
- Be open with your male drinking friends. You don’t need to tell them that you are on a ‘diet’, tell them you want to get healthy. Even
tell a little lie that your doctor said that your blood pressure or cholesterol is high!
- If you must get a takeaway or kebab after the pub, try and choose a healthier option. A chicken kebab for example, or if you have an
Indian takeaway, have boiled rice instead of fried.
- Why not eat a big healthy meal before you go to the pub so you will not be hungry and snack on crisps and nuts.
- Have a healthy supper already prepared at home waiting for you when you return from the pub, even if it is a wholemeal chicken
sandwich.
Exercise
You really need to get active. By being active helps enormously with weight loss for men. You don’t need to join a gym, you can go swimming, walking or running.
What sports do you like? Can you join a 5-a-side football team, or join your local cricket club. Whatever interests you, then look into it to
get active instead of just watching it on the telly.
Try and do a little weight training. Most men tend to focus on the weights side of exercising and this is good as we already discussed above that muscle burns fat. Just be aware that
you should also do moderate activity in the form of cardiovascular, i.e. an activity that will get you slightly out of breathe and raise your
heart rate somewhat.
Setting Goals and More Weight Loss Tips For Men
- If you have 3 stone to lose, for example, just take it one step at a time. Focus only losing half stone (7 lbs) at a time.
- Try and aim to lose 1-2 lb a week.
- Be aware that you might gain an extra pound here and there, don’t panic it’s normal.
- If you drop a clothes size or two, then treat yourself by buying some new clothes.
- Join an online diet club where you still get the support, help and resources to help you lose weight, but from the comfort of your own
home. No need to attend weight loss classes full of women!
- Let your partner or mum know of your new healthy eating regime. I am sure that they will only be too pleased to cook you healthy
meals.
