To merely tone your body, not build muscle, you will need to keep your weights on a low notch and do two sets of 12 reps.  This is enough to tone any area of your body.

However, if you want to build muscle, then you need to do heavy weights and keep adding weight to build the muscle bigger and stronger.

So you are on a weight loss regime and were wondering if lifting weights to lose weight be the only thing you needed to do to get your ideal figure.  Well I'm afraid that its not.  If you need to lose weight then you should do cardio exercises, light weights to tone your body, along with a healthy eating plan.

If you are wanting to build muscle then you actually need to consume a large amount of calories.  You see the body needs more calories than it normally does in order to build muscle.  If you cut back on your calories then you would have a very hard time to build muscle as you need to stimulate the anabolic effect in your body so it can grow new muscle tissues.
